Travel Plans

The West Yorkshire Travel Plan Network is a service to employers across West Yorkshire that links hands-on experience of local workplaces and provides a range of assistance to employers from the 5 local authorities and Metro, the WY Passenger Transport Executive. Introduce priority car share bays

A number of employers, as part of their company travel plans, are introducing priority car share parking bays as an incentive for car sharers. These are located close to the main entrance, providing guaranteed and convenient parking for car sharing employees.

Taxi Ride Home

One of the barriers to staff agreeing to car share is the fear of being left stranded if their lift fails, for example, if their lift giver is unexpectedly required to work late or if a child falls ill. It has been shown that the offer of a Guaranteed Taxi Ride Home, in which the organisation agrees to meet the cost of any taxi fare, can do much to alleviate these fears.

An employer could consider approaching a local taxi firm to establish an account with the company, guaranteeing staff a ride home. Although this may sound expensive, in reality it is hardly ever used.
